A How to Guide to Building Sandcastles
Okay. I know. Anyone can build sandcastles. But, have you ever seen some of the amazing sandcastles and other sand sculptures built in sand building competitions? They are truly a work of art and a masterpiece of engineering. Even if you have no interest in building a sandy "work of art" you can build a better sandcastle, sand city, or whatever sand structure your heart desires using the same techniques the pros use.
How to Build a Sandcastle
The most important thing to remember when building in the sand is that you need to use the proper proportion of water to sand. If it’s too wet or too dry the sand won’t hold its shape.

Sand Building Tools
You don’t need to spend a lot of money to build amazing sand structures. Common things you have around your house work great. The following things are all possible tools you can use to build in the sand, and this list is only the beginning. Use your imagination and look around your house. You may be surprised at the number of tools you come up with.
- Water bottle
- Plastic forks, knives, and spoons
- Melon baller
- Paintbrush to dust with
- Measuring cups
- Different sizes of Tupperware
- Wooden spoons
- Soup spoons
- Lemon squeezer
- Ice cream scoop
- Cookie cutters
The next time you’re going to the beach take a look around your house and collect some sand building tools. I bet you’ll have a great time creating your own masterpiece in the sand.
