Dune Allen Beach Florida
Coastal dune lakes are found in very few places in the world and Dune Allen is home to three – Lake Allen, Stallworth Lake, and Oyster Lake! What are coastal dune lakes? “Coastal dune lakes are found within about two miles of the coast. They’re typically shallow and irregularly shaped. They are usually permanent water bodies, but their water levels fluctuate substantially since they create transitory interchanges with the Gulf of Mexico (or other large bodies of water).” (http://www.basinalliance.org/page.cfm?articleID=7) In addition to the northwest coast of Florida, coastal dune lakes are only found in Australia, New Zealand, and Madagascar.
The area surrounding Dune Allen Beach is less developed than much of South Walton’s Gulf Coast making Dune Allen Beach a good choice for beachgoers who enjoy a more natural, less touristy feel to their beaches. This quality is only enhanced by the fact that Topsail Hill Preserve State Park’s 3.2 mile beach lies just west of Dune Allen Beach.
